Home Kits Made From Cold-Formed Steel Studs
Cold-formed steel, often referred to as Light Gauge Steel or LGS, is being used to build a wide variety of buildings. It is an innovative way to make studs and trusses: A roll of steel is fed into a machine, and it is shaped and cut into building components like framing studs. At My Barndo Plans (Home Plans, LLC) we use Cold Formed Steel to make home kits. These are just like custom-built homes, but instead of wood studs and trusses, we use light gauge steel studs and trusses. Stronger and quicker to build with, LGS homes will be a major part of future home builds. Termite resistance and fire resistance are just two of the reasons we chose to make kits in cold-formed steel. These kits ship from Lewisville, TX in partnership with ASF. ASF builds apartment buildings and warehouses with the same technology we use in these homes.
What is an ADU?
An ADU is a small home built on your existing property with a main dwelling already in place. An ADU is short for an Auxiliary Dwelling Unit (dumb name, great concept). People use ADUs for aging parents, in-law suites, kids who won't leave the nest, and short-term rentals.
The Quinn ADU or Home Kit
The Quinn is our most popular kit because it can be used as an ADU or a stand-alone home. It has Two Bedrooms and Two Bathrooms, and in most cases, the home structure can be built in a day. The kit does not include foundation, plumbing, wiring, drywall or finishes. All internal wall frames are included. The kit will be "dried in" when assembled.
